Wasser ist ein sehr gutes Lösungsmittel und löst leicht Mineralien, mit denen es in Kontakt kommt. Während sich Wasser durch Boden und Gestein bewegt, löst es sehr kleine Mengen an Mineralien (wie Ca +2 und Mg +2) und hält sie in Lösung.
